IS/ECT372 Course Site - Class Policies

Attendance It is the students responsibility to keep up with the class work should there be a need to miss class. Attendance will not be taken. There is a certain portion of student's grade that will come from in-class group exercises, so if a student misses the class that this is done in, he/she must check with group to make up work for exercise. Please eMail the instructor if it is known that you must be absent.

Course Site. The course site is www.daschmelzer.com/is372. Students are expected to use the site to get class information such as readings, homework assignments and lecture notes. Additionally, there is a Course Discussion forum located on the Distance Learning web at: https://dlweb.cti.depaul.edu/login/login.asp. Students are encouraged to use this forum to post questions on class material that are of general interest.

Homework submission. All homework will be due at the beginning of class. All homework must be submitted to the Distance Learning Web by midnight of the due date. Please don't miss class to complete your homework as final questions on that homework may be answered during that class.. Each assignment will be posted on the course site and have a posted deadline. Any assignment handed in after the deadline will be considered late. Assignments that are late will lose 50% of the points immediately. If the homework is not submitted by the following class period, no credit will be given. Assignment deadlines will be strictly enforced.

Exams. The mid term will be a 2 hour closed book exam conducted during Week 6. The final exam will be cumulative and will be a take home exam due at 9:00 pm in week 11. Details of the exams will be given in class one week prior to the exam.

Class Notes. The weekly lecture notes will be posted on the course website. It is expected that it is the students responsibility to print these out before class if they wish to use them as the basis of their notes.

Readings. There will be regular reading assignments given from the text, and at times, other sources. The reading assignments are expected to be completed before class time as they will provide the basis for lectures and class discussion.

Plagiarism. The university and school policy on plagiarism can be summarized as follows: Students in this course, as well as all other courses in which independent research or writing play a vital part in the course requirements, should be aware of the strong sanctions that can be imposed against someone guilty of plagiarism. If proven, a charge of plagiarism could result in an automatic F in the course and possible expulsion. The strongest of sanctions will be imposed on anyone who submits as his/her own work a report, examination paper, computer file, lab report, or other assignment which has been prepared by someone else. If you have any questions or doubts about what plagiarism entails or how to properly acknowledge source materials, be sure to consult the instructor. Note that with the availability of information on the internet, this presents more of a challenge. To be completely safe, please quote the site address that you gained any information from.

Incomplete. An incomplete grade is given only for an exceptional reason such as a death in the family, a serious illness, etc. Any such reason must be documented. Any incomplete request must be made at least two weeks before the final, and approved by the Dean of the School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems. Any consequences resulting from a poor grade for the course will not be considered as valid reasons for such a request.

Grade Challenge. Student's may challenge their final grade. To do this, a student must fill out a grade challenge form and submit it to the School of CTI within 2 weeks of the final grade receipt.
